Wow.

I know you're not country music people. But there was this song, several years ago, that said something along the lines of

I try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads

We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And we'll never know
What might have been

I had a conversation earlier today. And it's really hard to *not* think about what might have been. But it would have been a hell of a lot easier if he'd told me 5 years ago the stuff he told me today about what he was feeling 5 years ago. Because I was feeling it too, and neither one of us knew.

That's why they call 'em crushes, right?

PS Goblintcat asked if he or I will do something about all this stuff at this late date. For your answer, click the spoiler:

Unfortunately, no. Because as much as he makes my heart beat a little faster, and makes me a little bit nervous even after all these years...well, he's married now.

And we'll never know what might have been.

Sigh.

Banjos are an entirely different beast compared to, say, guitar. I played guitar for close to 20 years, and since I started playing banjo, there was a fair amount of I had to "unlearn" when starting out on the banjo. Seriously, though, when I picked up a banjo for the first time, it was like "seeing the light'. I haven't been the same since!
