Worst Night Ever.

Just as I am going to bed (around 4am) I notice that the rest of my apartment is full of an achrid smoke. I finally realize the beeping I have been hearing is a smoke detector (not mine). I quickly check all of what possibly could be burning in my apartment (electric heaters, check to make sure nothing was left on the stove) and I still can't find the source of the smoke.

I went out into the hallway and noticed that the detector that was going off was in my downstairs neighbors apartment. I pound on his door, trying to wake him up, since the smoke appears to be coming form his apartment. I try the backdoor, locked. I try his porch door, locked. Just to make sure I am not freaking out, I check with my roommate about breaking a pane of glass on his porch door, to get into his apartment. At this point I am thinking he has passed out and left something on the stove, which could start a fire. Or he is asleep and has asphixiated because of the smoke. Either way, someone has to get in there to check on him.

So I finally start trying to break the pane of glass. I pound on it a few times, and it doesn't break, so I grab a shovel, and just as I break through the glass, I hear someone inside yell at me.

Fucking neighbor was passed out on his couch. He says he didn't hear me pound on his windows, doors and stuff, and he says he couldn't hear his smoke detector off and that I was bullshitting him. I turn on the light and the room is full of smoke.

He left a pot on the stove in the kitchen, the spoon that was in it is now just a chunk of metal.

Fucking pot head.
