City pound is dog prison. Rightly so, neglect, disinterest, contempt are no longer capital offence. So row after row the brutes of a vicious time, await a fate.

"There's something I want to show to you."

Three doors down. Two cages over. Number fifty eight a little white Shih Tzu shivers from nerve and cold concrete. A sniff and a lick, through the chain link, readily accepts a finger.

"Isn't she sweet?" Miss Smith says "You need a little love in your house."

We went back today. Number fifty eight wasn't there. I know it will be a happy home. Someday I"ll get a junkyard. I know where to find my new best friend.
