Often friends pass the day watching me work.

Up a ladder for the last three weeks. Paint the house. Fix the fascia. Clean the gutters. There never seems to be a end to the chores around here. So for years, in the summer, people need not look far. I'll be in the yard.

The day before yesterday, one friend came around and pulled up a chair on the lawn. Had been scraping paint for an hour in the sun at that point. He nattered on. I didn't listen. I grunted and groaned approval or disapproval as he continued. Untill at one point he made some comment. It doesn't matter what. I had grown weary of the distraction. I threw down a look. He left.

A camp counsellor no doubt next summer.

Watched the satellite television installer complete the free installation. Barked demands and dogged the installer as he crawled through the attic and over the roof. And finally received what was deserved. A poke in the eye, with the corner of the flap of box the dish and receiver came in, as I cleaned up.

My eye is better, now.
