Killed. Yes. In a children's programme. At a time, where on gritty, live action cop shows, if someone was shot, they just fell over, 'Captain Scarlet' would have bloody gunshot wounds. A mechanic is crushed under a car lift, there is also a fantastically graphic electrocution, with the victim's body charred and smoking afterwards. Drownings, aircrashes, car accidents, all lovingly shown. On a kid's show. And I loved it. The next show, 'Joe 90', had, as it's main character, a nine year old boy, who, through the transfer of another person's 'brain waves', via the B.I.G. R.A.T. (Brain Impulse Galvanoscope Record And Transfer), could do almost anything. If a concert pianist's brainwaves were given to Joe (as they were), then he could play as well as the original. Joe was used as a perfect secret agent. This sometimes meant violence. In the second episode, Joe, with the brain patterns of a CIA agent, gets into a gunfight in the hidden base of some gun runners. He proceeds to kill four men with a handgun and grenades. That was in 1968. Can you imagine it being even considered now? Again, the show was quite brilliant - and still looks great today.
