Most of you probably know that I have Mohawk blood in me - enough so to identify as Native and carry a status in Canada. It is always something I've been proud of and it is usually one of the first things (out of millions) you'll learn upon meeting me.
I'm not so proud today. I'm actually downright embarrassed.

We ask for people to listen, but turn around and alienate ourselves further by causing disruption to people's lives and business.
Instead of the focus being on the real issues of poverty, poor living conditions, and high rates of addiction and suicide, the focus will be on the blockades and the chaos they will cause.
A statement from First Nations leaders on the motives behind today's National Day of Action: "an opportunity to strengthen public knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, history, traditions and aspirations, and to rededicate ourselves to the work ahead in forging new and meaningful relationships."
I see a huge disconnect between that statement and the actions that have been taken today. This is absolutely not the way to affect positive change and it makes me sad and embarrassed that a heritage I have been so proud of has chosen to behave this way, regardless of their ultimate intentions.

Ive noticed things like this are also a problem here in the western new york and Niagara region and its really a shame
