I miss the days of making honest-to-goodness mix tapes: the ones that took hours to create, and you had to listen to each song as you recorded to the quite-missed cassette tape. After finishing the labor of love, you pressed eject and held tangible evidence of your work. The next step was the cover artwork and decision on how the song titles would be presented.

I'm currently rereading the perks of being a wallflower. After getting to the part in which Charlie makes a mix tape for Patrick and seeing the list of songs, I decided to make the mix myself, though admittedly on an iTunes Playlist. Luckily, I already had nearly all of the songs. The list reads as follows:

"I had an amazing feeling when I finally held the tape in my hand. I just thought to myself that in the palm of my hand, there was this one tape that had all of these memories and feelings and great joy and sadness. Right there in the palm of my hand. And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how much those songs really mean. I think it would be great to have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote one of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote t hose songs are happy. I hope that they feel it's enough. I really do because they've made me happy. And I'm only one person."

I wish I would have written that. This book is inspiring me as I am about to embark on National Novel Writing Month in November.
