Well for the past four hours I've been watching this chemical plant, about 25 miles from my house, burn and smolder. Sometime around 9:30pm, a hazardous material/chemical recycling plant blew up. It was described as "a massive explosion", by the emergency broadcast system. For the first hour or so tanks kept exploding every few minutes, so we'd have a new huge fire-fuck ball, and plume of black smoke to stare at. And for the longest time no one had any idea what exactly was burning, and what we were breathing. I think by now they've decided it's mainly acetone and they're going to let the tanks burn out before they do anything. This is just absolutely ridiculous. The biggest irony is at one point they said the facility was owned by an environmental preservation company.
A one mile radius around the plant was evacuated and most of the news coverage is of people at the high school watching movies and eating pizza.
