Last night I drove from West LA to Echo Park to check out this reggae spot some friends have told me about. I got there and waited a half hour in line before getting to the front and hearing that the cover would be $15. It was12:30. I also had a small pipe in my pocket that the doorman told me I'd have to throw away to come in. Imagine them apples. A weed pipe at a reggae club? What was I thinking?! I guess I've been spoiled. This type of bullshit doesn't happen in Humboldt.
Suffice to say, I did not attend the event. Still, I didn't want all my travel to be in vain, so I explored the immediate area foot-wise. Had a $3 Tanzanian rum&coke at a small art show. Shared a bit of herb with the artist, a leperchaun of a black man. Stopped into a beer and wine bar with a warm and candle-y feel. Ended up at a place called the Gold Room where my Jameson shots were surprisingly less than $9 and the DJ was trying his best to please the hipsters and the gauchos alike. I will go there again.
