school is now back in full swing...i swim through an ocean of books, the words on each page crashing against the shores of my eyes, transforming my brain meats into finer, newer particles. someone named celine writes like i often do, only celine uses many exclamation points, whereas i find little use for those most of the time...i wander the halls, navigate through the crowds, drifting from one destination to the next...spending time in rooms full of people i have only slightly more chance of connecting with than anyone else i randomly pass by...i could use a circle of friends here in town, instead of the scattered souls who choose to share my company...the great circle lies in the bigger city, but that's not always a place i can stay...and, before long, i'll leave both of my cities behind in search of a new one...some days i think i need that...press the reset button, start the game anew.

this past weekend i endured sleep deprivation...it was more than worth it...a quick round trip to austin on 4 wheels with a best friend...watching the (however briefly) reunited Scratch Acid perform in a club...a rare opportunity indeed...they broke up in 87 i believe, and reunited to play an anniversary show for one of the labels they called home, while adding a couple of extra dates alongside it...their being from austin originally it made sense for them to play there of course...anyways, the whole thing left me with many thoughts, apart from the overall sense of awe and joy from finally seeing them live...

what happened to the bands of mystery? the unpredictable bands? the bands who truly defied conventions and expectations? the bands who embraced the darkness and the danger of rock n roll completely, and not as a marketing tool? where are those bands? they're so far and few between now it seems...i miss that...i miss that touch of fear of dealing with the unknown when i went to see a band...and, sure, after so many times seeing a band you get some sense of what to expect from them, especially when you're familiar with the music they play...but some bands never completely lose that feeling, that atmosphere, that ability to make their audience question the safety of the situation they're in...Scratch Acid still had that. and so i wonder why that element is missing today...or maybe it's not, but i'm looking in the wrong places...sure, there have been a few bands who carry it in the past few years that i've seen, but not many...and i won't rattle off names, as this is getting long anyways, and soon i need to sleep...but where are those bands?

perhaps i'll start one...
