I've got this friend who has a habit of being where horrible things are happening but always seems to come through without a scratch. He was in Kabul when the war started and his whole attitude was "I'm not gonna let a few bombs and terrorists ruin my vacation". What makes it even more amazing is he stands out in a crowd, everywhere, he's about 6'3 with long, long blonde hair. He kind of looks like a viking god, his voice sounds exactly like Snagglepuss, and he's one of the bigest queens I've ever met. That's just one example, but whenever there's a major man made or natural disaster we all wonder if he's there.
I had completely forgotten, but he had planned to spend the holidays in Sri Lanka at a beach house of another friend. Last week someone had mentioned no one had heard from him and he was doing two months in Sri Lanks on the beach. Needless to say, we began to worry.
This past Saturday we received a card, addressed to us all, where he casually mentioned the big wave that destroyed the beach house and went on to say he was alright beacause he was "slummin it with a budget piece of ass on the other side of town".
We all should be so lucky.
