So, I'm trying to plan a surprise party for my friend's 30th birthday... Not sure how he's gonna feel about this LOL I'd be stoked to have someone actually plan a surprise party for me, but alas, in all of my 28 years no one ever has frown

So here's the troublesome part; I've known Jon for over 15 years now and over the years I've listened to him go on and on about these dreams of his and how he was going to make them a reality, and yet, on June 13th he will be 30 years old and he's manage to accomplish NONE of what he's set out to accomplish frown The unbearably sad truth is that he's actually taken more steps backwards than he has forward... Well, I guess that kinda depends on how you look at things. Anyhow, Jon realized this years ago, and though he won't admit it to anyone, we all know it's the cause of his depression.

We've all tried to help this guy, but some people you just can't help frown

Well, I guess that was enough lead up LOL The problem is, his family and friends can't seem to figure out what would be an acceptable scenario for a guy like him. I first thought a couple of us would invite him out to a quiet dinner only for him to arrive and find EVERYONE there, but how would this play out? frown I'm afraid he might get pissed and leave frown Another idea was planning a trip to Great America, but that's a long drive for everyone and since the only day we might have available if Friday the 12th, well I don't think that'll work. This sucks! Any ideas?

Take care all! biggrin

Surprise parties are always tricky. My brother threw one for his wife where everyone was invited to this big Event, and at the time she was happy enough to go along with it. But she has said since that she wishes it had just been a nice dinner with closer friends and family, rather than everyone making a big deal about her 30th.

Would your friend be more comfortable in a casual setting, like a backyard kind of deal? It could be a surprise BBQ party. biggrin
