The Wheels of the Bus Go Round and Round....

I work for a beer distributor. Primarily Budweiser, we also do a bunch of imported stuff. I like the job. I load trucks and sometimes go out on routes and help drivers when we are shorthanded. You would be amazed at the amount of money a beer driver makes. You would be even more amazed at what these guys think of themselves.

Let me start off by saying, I don't want my own route - EVER. You see I worked for Delta Air Lines as a Cargo Agent. I also worked for TMobile as a Customer service Supervisor. Both of those jobs taught me one thing. I HATE dealing with upset customers. You want to know the main reason why? Inevitably someone says "The customer is always right!" Well, I have news for you, NO HE ISN'T. the customer is right when he says my steak is not well done enough. The customer is right when he says I ordered this car in red and it is blue (only if in fact the car is blue). But the customer is not right when little Billy takes the cell phone and racks up 2000 minutes of useage causing overage because your plan only had 1000 minutes. You shouldn't have given an irresponsible 14 year old a phone. Yes that was an actual call I had to take once. I am straying from the point here though.

I work nights. Tuesday morning when we were getting out of work, we were "treated" to a lecture from the general manager. There as been a problem with excessive breakage being found in the warehouse. Well it also seems that it is our (the night shift) fault. Here is the argument as presented to me by the swing shift manager.

"Well the drivers say they didn't do it, my guys say they didnt do it so, who else are we going to blame?"

Reread that if you have to.

Here is why that statement is ludicrous if it isnt obvious.

The night shift doesn't get in trouble for most of the breakage we produce. The company understands it cannot be helped. A case here and there is understood. If it is 30 or more cases by one person that is cause for alarm. But, one or two, the supervisor just logs it and it is sent for repacking. We have no motivation for hiding breakage.

Drivers on the other hand, lose comission on breakage. 29 cents per case. The swing shift isnt even supposed to be handling non-palletized beer. Now they all wonder why I dont want to talk to them. They throw me directly under the bus for 29 cents and want to know why I am not friendly to them.

It is work, I am not there to make friends, I am there to pay the bills. They can go fuck themselves. It's not like they go out of their way to be my friends outside of work.
