I'm sure a lot of you have some sort of political blah blah in your journals recently. Here's my bits, for what they're worth. An SG exclusive! smile

1) As the media has been saying, the young voters didn't turn out at any greater rate than previous elections. Course they're the ones getting pulled up into the military, trying to find new jobs or start school, and starting social security funds that they'll never see... but, fuck it, voting takes away valuable time from gravity bongs, playing San Andreas, and jerking off.

Speaking of turn out, we keep hearing there was more? But, was there? From a population growth standpoint?

The total voters from 2000 were about 50.5 for Bush, 51 for Gore, and 3 for Nader. The actual total (US Census) was 111 million, give or take. Even more telling: only about 129 mil went through the effort to even register. That's out of a voting population of 209 million. About 92% of the population can vote; only 55% chose to in 2000. I guess you could look at it as an 85% turn out among registered voters... but even that was the second lowest percentage since the late 60s.

In 2004, Bush got 59.5 mill, Kerry 56, and Nader about .5. The total voters this year were about 116. Probably higher, as the US Census numbers from 2000 were higher than the three major candidates totals. But, even if I was generous and added the same difference (+7.5) and came up with 124 million... that's only 13 million more. Around 10%.

While the actual census data isn't out yet, the voting population grew by about 20 million (to apprx 240 million). Again, 124 million voted.

Was all that effort wasted? Well, the more the better, I say. But, I'm still a little pissed at all the lazy fuckheads that didn't get off their ass and exercise a right most countries have to be invaded or rebel to get.

2) Religious turn-out. I'm not here to bash religion or Christianity in specific. But do you know how many states have some form of legalized gambling? All of them except Utah. Newsflash, all sin is equal in God's eyes. If you're going to hold up the bible and say it's guiding you in your decisions, try reading the whole fucking book. It's not a catalog you can pick and choose what suits you.

Bush is currently a Methodist. He's switched religions about four times (flip flopped, one might say). Maybe the democrats could have brought up that Methodist leaders hate Bush andhis reasons for war.

Well, let's be fair. Maybe one of the democratic minded 527s could have.

Okay. This is how it's going to go. You're going to help me out. Everyday I'm going to tell you the pros and cons of someone waiting to be my friend... and you're going to help me figure out if I should accept them or not. BECAUSE THIS IS HARD! Really hard. Okay. First one.

Sliggy This guy has been in the bunch before my set went up. That means he didn't go, "Oh wow, nice rack. I should be her friend" So that's a plus. Other pluses. He likes Metropolis and Alfred Hitchcock. Cons, he watches the Chappelle show. I hate that show.
