Well, I've wanted to conclude my PG-13 rant, but I've been sucked into playing Medieval:Total War (a computer game which features both board game elements and real time army based combat).

My friend Inga saw a TV show where couples are going to a doctor in order to choose the gender of their child. Putting aside the moral implications of the decision itself, the basic process involves fertilizing a bunch of eggs from the mother, checking the gender, then planting the chosen one in her and destroying the others.

What do you tell your kid when they grow up? Do you tell them at all? "Yeah, daddy and I had 6 of your potential sisters aborted, so we could have a boy."

The doctor that created the procedure did it so parents could choose babies without birth defects or potential handicaps. That's a little distasteful, too. Inga, who's in a wheelchair from a genetic disease, is a better person than most I know. The problem isn't disabilities as much as it is a world that refuses to build buildings or take into consideration, handicap persons.

Isn't that what the vast majority thinks is the solution to most of our problems? Create an expensive procedure to shape our perceived problems into what we think is a 'better' solution?

Give our kid blond hair and blue eyes so they'll be pretty... instead of instilling confidence in them and teaching them there is no one ideal. Breed out potential 'disabilities'... instead of spending a couple bucks on a ramp or designing slightly wider doorways and treating 'them' like 'normal' people.

Kinda like wanting to ship them back to Africa instead of just shutting the fuck up and getting along.

Always has to be something to disatisfy us. Always something to draw our attention away from our own shortcomings.

Me, I'm not as angry about it as she it. I just keep thinking of the Sneetches.

hi honey kiss

well I did end up disappearing for a few days, but that was mostly because of boring stuff like school.

I'll send you an e about everything, but basically things are much better now. I let myself get too sad sometimes, and it gets hard to break out of some of my bullshit cycles.

anyway - today I am Happy! Thx for the sweet comment smile

Medieval: Total War... very good game. It took me more than a year to kick that little addiction... just in time for the superb-looking Rome: Total War's arrival.

Sometimes (as regards to your more serious subject), I think about just adopting a 3rd world kid while I'm still single. I think it would just make things simpler.
