This week is half-term, so I don't have (evening) classes. This theoretically means I get home on time and can have a leisurely dinner in front of the TV, or surf the net, or drink beer, or play video games.

However, for reasons unknown to me, my subconscious appears to have decided that I need to step up the extra-curricular activities to fill the gap. So I find myself scrubbing the windows with handfuls of scrunched up newspaper, playing more capoeira, printing off extracts of Folha da Sao Paulo and Le Monde to read on the train home from work, planning which dance classes I want to attend on Sunday (Latin Hip-Hop currently in the lead, if you're interested). What is it about the mind - or my mind, at least - that objects so strongly to "down time"? Is it some misguided sense that unfilled time is wasted time? If it is this sense, is it really misguided? Or is it some other reason entirely?

And more to the point, why the hell am I the only male in the dance class?
