I like it when my prejudices are reinforced. Particularly about Germans.

We spent the weekend in Tubingen, near Stuttgart, for a wedding. Now, I've worked with several Germans and met others, and I've never met one I didn't like. At this wedding, which was a very refined affair, with excellent food, local wine and beer, and unusual but traditional entertainment, everybody was so welcoming, so...

I've spent the day doing three things.
i) Complaining - I'm pretty good at this. The stupidity of people, weak coffee, overly cheesy pizza, London buses, illiberalism, reactionary newspapers and religious fundamentalists were today's main topics, but let's face it, it could have been anything.
ii) Hurting - thighs (both), knee (right), chest, triceps, upper back. It's all worth it though.
iii) Really wanting to...

It's raining. Through the wall, I can hear the student band next door practice. It's like being in some Bavarian nightmare, with Simon & Garfunkel and Herman's Hermits transformed by the wall and the patter of the rain into raggedy oompah-oompah horrors. Turning up the Brecht/Weill helps, but doesn't block it out completely.

My abs hurt from the gym, and I have to pack up...

Someone please explain to me the point of tonsils. I've been knocked down for a big fat week by the little bastards.
On the plus side, however, it does mean
a) I've had some really trippy dreams. The filmic one with John Cleese as inspector Clouseau in a grim, rainy Edinburgh, taking place largely in cathedrals and museums (particularly a "museum to comedy") clad in...

No update for three weeks. Almost four. In fact, exactly four.

Still, shit happens - it's been a busy few weeks. Mainly with work (man's gotta eat) but also with iPod. I think I'm a bit besotted with it. I mean, getting a portable digital radio changed my life - or my journey to work, at least - but this thing has made a big...

Ah, life is peachy. No more work for a few days, so just sleeping in. All my Christmas shopping is done as well.

And the local supermarket has ready-made mulled wine - just heat it and add brandy. Mmm, I'm beginning to feel festive already.

So, merry Christmas, feliz Natal and joyeux Noel to anyone and everyone...

Sometimes life is difficult.

More specifically, relationships are difficult. I'm not convinced there is such a thing as an easy relationship. (Of course, I'm making sweeping assumptions about the nature of people though, rather than just the nature of people I've been out with.)

We all have double standards. We all have different definitions of "the worst thing you could possibly do to me". We...
