I used to look back at my past antics and wacky hijinx and think, "Wow, I was a really angry person back then." What I've come to realize is that I am an angry person, and that I'm likely to be an angry person for quite a long time. I've tried managing it through catharsis, but instead of draining, it just builds; I've tried swallowing...

Been wasting too much time surfing the intrablags. Gonna go on a diet--an hour a day, max, for the next month.

My problem is that when I'm that tired, exercise isn't healthy for me as I have a heart problem. Maybe if I try exercising when I get home before I'm too tired it'll help.

I tell myself this every day!
It has been an odd night. I was asked a few days ago to attend a wine tasting dinner for a client tonight, for the purpose of snapping pictures for their website. Last night, an emergency came up that I had to drive out to State College--several hours away--to deal with. I left at 10pm, and didn't get back until ~4am. Then I got up...

Oof. Just got back from my first sparring night. It's nothing rough, just one night a week where anybody is allowed to walk in off the street and spar. Mostly it seems to be just our own students, but from what I've heard, we get visitors pretty frequently.
Anyway, I'm exhausted. This kid who apparently just does the bagua classes picked me out. He kept...

Erk. I just finished reading the All His Engines TPB, and now the mental 'voice' in which I compose things before I write them has a British accent.

Thanks
I'm very excited.
Ghhheeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuugh.
I don't like spiders. It's normally not too much of a problem to keep it in check--I don't freak out and run away screaming every time I see one.
All of which restraint goes to hell when I walk into a web so large and so well-founded that it actually resists me for a second before breaking away and wrapping around my face....

yeah i'm the one who runs away screaming then asks in a childish voice... geoff there is a spider... can you kill it?
Most days, I worry that the people I want to communicate with don't understand me. Some days, I worry that they do understand me--but that I don't understand myself.

It's not very often that feel absolutely certain about something, but now and then I'll feel so strongly that something is right that I'll speak up and make a stand for it.
And then half those times I'll end up being proven wrong.
But what I lack in conviction, I like to think I make up for in open-mindedness!

The continuing saga of mfb's aches and pains: I've started taking kung fu classes, and one of the truths that is making itself apparent is the dichotomy between intellectual understanding and kinesthetic understanding. A completely hypothetical example that has nothing to do with the way I've been popping ibuprofen all day: it's one thing to say that you shouldn't fully extend your arm when you...

Sunday I decided to do something I haven't in a while-- shadowbox with free weights. Now, I tend to have no problem doing in the neighborhood of fifty knuckle push-ups, I feel a little soreness in the muscles when I'm on my routine, sure, which is how you know it works. The free weights... not such a great idea. I threw a right cross that swung my rosary so hard it pulled the cross out of the cheap piece of shit. I still haven't found it. And I'm still in pain three days later. But I have to keep practicing. The thought of your actual kung-fu and your internet-fu being honed is terrifying.

Apparently, I'm past the age where I can eat three Krispy Kreme doughnuts for lunch. I didn't even know that was an age thing, but I used to do that shit all the time. The first effect I noticed after ingesting delicious custard-filled horrible poison was that about two hours afterward, I almost fell asleep at my desk. I crashed for three hours before being...

I'm not reading past the first sentence of your CE post until the funny wears off.
This journal is pretty funny too.

Y'know, I like to argue. I also find it satisfying to discuss--to debate in order to clarify and divide fact from fiction and opinion. But I like to argue. There's a flow to arguments, a pattern, in the same way that a fight has a pattern. It's fascinating to me that you can 'win' an argument through technique rather than logic or correctness of premise....

It's nice to know I have a bearing on your mood!
Interesting take on arguing. "You can use words to tangle up and undo the point your opponent is trying to make--you probably won't convince him, because he retains his internal idea of what his point is, but you can prevent him from convincing anyone else"
Is there any point in a private argument between two people, then?

Unrelatedly, I really like that ABCs story.
Some people's kids. I tell you what.
