Well I feel semi-accomplished. I woke up early this morning, Dragon: THe Bruce Lee Story was on. That has to be the most uplifting movie I've ever seen. After seeing that and having two cups of coffee I felt pretty active. I took another crack at chinups and pushups. I'll do one or two more sets of each at some point today.. Maybe.. Probably not as soon as I should have but meh.

Then I decided to fuck with jewelry stuff. So I took the plaster mold I made inside the makshift flask I was going to expiriment Steam casting on.
Ran the blow torch over it for a good little while. Hopefully melting the wax model out of it. Not posative.

But! Since I was outside and feeling determined I heated my melting dish and sprinkled it with borax... Then kind of filled it with borax... It bubbles up and floats away at first, but the stuff underneith that gets a chance to really heat up melts into a goo that cools to a glass like stuff... THat's what I needed all over the bottom of the dish. It keeps the silver from sticking. So that worked out well. Freaked out some neighbours, sitting in my drive way with welding goggles and a blowtorch, hunched over this thing. So I attempted to melt some silver and pour it into a mold.

I think I should have #1 waited for the dish to cool completely before casting in it. #2 used smaller bits of silver. They kind of formed into a glob eventualy, which started to mingle with the melting borax. The silver needed to melt quicker. Oh and #3 my blow torch is not suitable for casting. I can't get a consistant flame. it kept giving out on me. I'll need a heating tip for either my LittleTorch or my oxy/acetylene.

And now I'm kinda tired and bored... Came up with a neat idea for a vest made entirely of pistol belts. I'll have to see if I can pick a bunch cheap enough.

I worked at the jewelry store thursday and friday. It was fun.. Kinda boring second day. I really need more instruction on some things but me boss has been too busy.
Her daughter, the other new girl and I all kind of sat around going mad with boredom. Also there was some Thomas The Tank Engine show going on in the mall. THe music and kids screaming along was too loud I could hardly think.
I reshaped someone's nose studs.. Those things are kinda nasty but it was pretty easy to do and she was very happy with them.
Oh, and boss sold a $9,000 ring,

Both days I took the same bus as a really cute girl. On friday I saw her workign at Orange Julius. Maybe a couple more bus rides together and I'll strike up a conversation. With my luck she'll be a lesbian.
Not all short haired tomboys are lesbians are they?

I would love to get out and do something. But I nunno what, or where... Most of me friends are gone.. at least the ones old enough to go drinking with.

Mmmk well I'm gonna go think of something...

okay - it's very, very possible that i'm misunderstanding what happened, so feel free to slap me if you think i'm being retarded tongue but, in my experience, the borax always mingles with the silver a little, and it floats to the top and kinda swirls around. then when you cast, all the impurities are stuck in the borax, which floats and therefore just forms the top of the button, leaving the casting itself pure.

the melting dish usually needs to be hot (i heat it to 900F), or else it takes the silver fucking forever to melt. smile

ps: for that matter, the mold itself should also be hot, else the metal will harden as soon as it touches the plaster and it won't cast at all.

(have you cast before? i don't wanna be halfway lecturing you if you know what you're doing, but, i can give you some suggestions if you're just starting out. smile )
