So we set a date, which I've read is the most important part. We've got 6 months to throw this thing together, which is fine by us.
I had my first parental headbutt the other day, with none other than my mom. Tom and I were thinking of the SFO Hyatt for the location (yes gaming folk, that's the Kublacon hotel). Mom says, "Isn't Burlingame a little far?", which roughly translates to: "I don't want to drive an hour" (although she followed it up with "you should get married in the little chapel your dad and I got married in down in Aneheim"... um no. Thanks). She also said (kind of bitterly, actually) we shouldn't get married in a church, since we're not religious. She's mad *I'm* not religious, really. My mom is Lutheran, my dad's family's Catholic, Tom's family is a bit agnostic... so we're in it to please ourselves, I think, because we're surely gonna fail at pleasing everyone. And it's my goddamn wedding anyway
So I talked to the Hyatt... unfortunately, they are not cheap, even if Dad is paying for it. Neither Tom nor I are religious, so we were going to have the ceremony and the reception at the hotel. But the hotel wants $1500 just for the ceremony room, and $90 a head for the reception (which, actually, includes centerpieces, linens, plates, served food, cake, bride and groom suite, and champagne/wine). So, okay place for the reception, NOT okay place for the ceremony.
But Tom and I have no idea where we'd host it otherwise... until Tom says, "Hey, what about Tahoe?". We're both cold-weather, outdoors loving people, so I looked into it... OMG cheaper! Like, $1200 for ceremony, minister, chapel, photographer, and two nights bride and groom suite, and $10 a head for guests. Food and cake not included, but that's okay. Down side? Tom and I have never been to Tahoe
So I emailed a coordinator in the area, we'll see how much they want to charge. If it's too much, we'll just do it ourselves and take a trip up there.
I've decided Melinda's gonna be my flower girl, and Motor's gonna be my ring bearer
Yes... my dog is going to be a part of the ceremony. So
hehehe. I have two bridesmaids in mind (was gonna do maid of honor and bridesmaid, but it's gonna be so small, I just said forget it). Tom's got his best man. We've got our colors of sage green and steel blue. And I told Tom I want to wear a white cotton skirt, ballet slippers, and a t-shirt that says "Bride". He said maybe not... we're going to have to compromise on that one.
