OK, so here's my first entry. Hello everyone! I sit here before my computer wondering where to begin telling about myself. uh... well...
I've been an anti-capitalist activist for four or five years now. Recently I've been working with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty on their(our?) campaign to get welfare and disability rates raised by 40% in this province. God knows there's a desperate need for it and a victory in this area would be an important set back to the implementation of the neo-liberal agenda.
I'm also taking a course with the Anarchist University entitled Radical Perspectives on Media. It's been really fascinating so far. We've read George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia as well as other writers who reported first-hand from the Spanish Civil War(or Spanish Uprising depending on your perspective.) Most of the discussion has centred on the question of journalistic objectivity and whether it could be applied to these writers and why these writings were or were not accepted by various publications.
As for the rest of my life... I've been working as a dishwasher for the last 3 years and hating it. I've just made up my mind that a change is necessary, partially because a conflict between myself and the dayshift over who ought to do what work is making it unbearable. Unfortunately wanting a change and getting my ass in gear to make the change are two different things.
But anywho... I'd be very happy to find someone interested in talking about some of these things... now I must brace myself to press the SEND button... It'd be a shame to type all this and not send it... Here goes...
