Time.

That's how people know you love them-because you spend time with them. They know because you want to spend time with them.

You know you love some one when you become separated from them. When you can no longer see them and be with them. Think about it. Death is a permanent separation (as far as I know) and one of the saddest things there is.

I've been thinking lately about people that I want to be with; people that I want to be close to. A lot of it is family. I'm trying to spend as much time with them as I can before I go back to work and school. I went to a second cousin's wedding yesterday, and then went and picked up my niece who is visiting from New York. She's 15, she was bored, and she called me up and said, "Uncle Joe take me shopping." Shopping? With a 15 year old? She wanted to go to the mall and I had just got in from the wedding, stripped, and in front of the computer. I didn't have a good enough excuse not to so I went and got her. I bullied her into going to Best Buy where I bought City of Heroes and she was disgusted. Then we went to Ross where I bought her 3 shirts and she was happy again.

Today, I went and saw a cousin of mine who lives in a hospital. He's too violent and erratic to be kept at home so his parents have finally found a good program for him about an hour out of town. I worked locked psychiatric facilities for 5 years so I don't have any trouble with him. In fact, He's the only cousin I've got that can go on and on about videogames as long as I can, and is therefore one of my favorites. I went with his parents and we took him shopping and out to lunch. He talks a mile a minute, but he stayed calm and listened when his parents spoke. It was a good day for them.

Of course I've been to see my grandma a couple of times and I'm flying out for another wedding next week. So hopefully my family knows I love them.

But there's something else. I've been thinking about another person that I want to see. She's some one I want to be with and spend time around. That's love. It's a very basic sort sure, but the thought of not seeing her again makes me sad.

Time.

Time spent with and on each other. That's how people can know love.
