I was in DC over the weekend to check out the cherry blossums.

They were beautiful.

I also walked over to the Jefferson memorial. The words around his statue speak about tyranny over the mind, rejecting compulsory church attendance, and the need for governments to change as knowlege grows.

Standing there I kept thinking about the war in Iraq and about how seemingly we are there for all the right reasons. I don't want war, but none of the arguments against have convinced me the way the arguments for have. Still, I'm very disappointed in the Iraqi's and it seems rather futile to try and whip a society of racist religious fanatics into a democracy.

Anyway, I also went to the Hirshhower (?) sculpture museum next to the Smithsonian. I'm too scared to try acid so expressionistic sculpture is my safe alternative.

Yeah, it's like that.

Much love to you all.

DC is beautiful this time of year...and there's no better place to feel closer to the government as a civilian that in DC. The Lincoln Memorial always did that for me. Overwhelming sense of pride and home. Arlington is also a vivid reminder of what sacrifices have been made. I agree, it seems like an endless battle, man vs. monster when dealing with all of the turmoil overseas, but as the opinionated Americans that we are, one movement should bring us all together, and that's supporting those who are serving over there. It's when THAT loyalty falters that we can hang our heads in shame. Sorry, I'm using your journal as a soap box. I'll humbly step down and be on my way...
