I've never seen a band that has so obviously influenced a scene before. Last Monday nite, I went to the Middle East and saw Bayside & the Smoking Popes. Both bands were great.
I can say this, though. Without the Smoking Popes, there would be no Bayside, no Lawrence Arms, DEFINETELY no Alkaline Trio, no Fallout Boy. What do all those bands (minus Bayside) have in common? They're all from Chicago, and they all apparently spent their formative years listening to the Smoking Popes. Well played Popes. Well played.
