ok - tonight was a totally good night. went down to 2nd ave pizza (in seattle) to see pipsqueak play an early show with some other bands (prix the pilot) and it was awsome. every time i see pipsqueak he gets better and better. pretty soon other people are gonna start taking notice and its gonna explode - i can feel it.

next went down to graceland (in seattle) and saw the new mexicans play with akimbo and pretty girls make graves. now i know that there were alot of good shows happening tonight (in seattle) but i really am glad i was at the one i was at.

i missed the first band, (at gacekand in seattle) and for that i apoligize, but i cant imaginge a better show than what i saw tonight. (thats totally not true, ill give details fallowing this description) for those of you familiar with the bands mentioned you already know that these bands feature power house drummers, as well as well rounded musicians. (Q. what do you call sombody who hangs out with musicians? - A. a drummer.) this asset, in my opinion, seperates an ok band from a kick ass band.

the new mexicans are straight forward, intricate yet non frivilous hardcore. (ala drive like jehu, fugazi, etc) they combine math rock with a non pretincious attitude wich, if you dont try too hard, equals a good time, every time. these kids dont really care what you think of them and it shows.

i have to admit that i was busy swilling jack and cokes for most of akimbos set untill i realiazed that nat was their drummer. (god i love a good drummer) many of you will remember nat from his stint in tight bros from way back when. he played on the "lend you a hand" record and totally kicks ass as both a drummer and a person. (its two seperate things ya know)

then came the mighty pretty girls make graves. along time ago i used to be in a band with nick on drums. he was a very, very technical drummer and always very percise with his beats. at the time i actually thaught he was too technically percise. im very happy to say that his drumming has become much more organic with his experience in "pretty girls". hes just as technically percise as ever yet he hits alot harder now and it really adds some emotion and presence.

two things that sucked about tonight (and i wont harp on the negitive too much i promise) is that my roommate still hasnt paid her shair of the rent, wich leaves me very broke. and my girlfriend (a drummer herself) had a headach all day wich turned into a migrain about halfway thru the show (damn drummers)

other bands (in seattle) with good drummers that i feel i should mention (since im mentioning drummers at all) are broadcast oblivion, and the whip. coady (from broadcast oblivion) is almost too good. i told him several years ago not to get any better cuz it would just end up detracting from the rest of any band he might ever be in. fortuanetly for everone else he disregarded my warnings. he has gotten better since his days in the murder city devils and it is nothing but a blessing.

scotty (formerly of karp and the bronz ) ((the bronz were awful)) is probably one of the hardest hitting most intricate drummers that im aware of in seattle today. his presence in the whip is what adds dynamics to what would otherwise be just another heavy as shit band. dont get me wrong - if you like heavy as shit bands, the whip are right up there. but scotty on drums really seperates them from the rest.

ok ive said too much about things i really know nothing about, ( i cant play drums to save my life) so ill shut up now.
