ok so i went to the a.w.k. show here in seattle yesterday, and i wore a sg teeshirt. i knew that in portland the sg's were scheduled to appear at his show, but really i wasnt trying to make any statement. it just happened to be the shirt i grabbed that day. first of all i have to say i was surprised at how much feedback the shirt generated. second i was even more surprised at how much of that feedback was negative. i can understand that for any given topic there are going to be supporters and detracters. and especially when that topic is nudity or porn.
now ive never been one to argure politics. i figure people are going to want what they want and do what they do like what they like and hate what they hate. not everyone is going to agree and some people are just plain stupid. in fact the only two opinions i have any memeory of activly defending in heated debate, are guns and porn. as i get older im really starting to like the idea of socalized health care, but i still dont think of myself as politically minded.
anyways back to yesterdays a.w.k. show...
some of the negative feedback i got was that the sg site does not pay its models "enough". now being that i am not a model on this site, i have no point of reference as to what the models on this site earn for their work. the person i was talking to, said that his girlfriend is a model on sg and thats how he knows. after talking with him for a while i think his main complaint was that the site is "making all this money".
here is my opinion on the "enough" issue. now this is based on the assumption that the model knows how much is being offered befor the photo session takes place. if the amount offered is not "enough", dont do the shoot. i had this same conversation with my girlfriend last night to see her perspective on things, and she said that she knows girlls who do this sort of thing for free just because thay think its fun. "enough" is totally a relative term, and it needs to be decided on personally by the persons involved.
os for teh site "making all this money". i say go for it. make all the money you can
the next bit of criticism i got is that sg actively seeks younger looking girls and photographs its models to make them appear young. this came from a girl who says that she did a series of photos for the site but decided not to particapate when they wanted to reshoot because she didnt look young enough. now i can neither confirm nor deny her story. yesterday was the first time i met her and she seemed very nice.
i told her how i came to be aware of the site by unknowingly attending the annaversary party and actually meeting some of the people involved. (see my first journal entry for details) she agreed that everyone she met involved whith the site was very nice and "really cool people". and we agreed that that was a good enough reason to suppert the site.
now as i look thru the models profiles it appears that many of them are "young". (everyone is at least eight teen years of age of course) again this "young" issue is entirely subjective. being the age that she is my gilfriend says that she sometimes feels uncomfortable looking at anyone "born after 1980"
we could go into a whole social analazation as to why our society finds "young" people attractive.
also, generally speaking, people tend to become more conservative as they get older. this means that people who are willing to pose nude are more likely to do do it in their youth when our society is more accepting of their form, than they are later as they mature.
dont get me wrong here im not saying that only young people are attractive or that only young people pose nude.
now how does this relate to the original criticizm? i dont really know. my long winded rationalazations arnt interesting to even me so im really amazed if anyone is still reading this.
