It's summer. This is the three months out of the year I actually go outside. I probably won't be her much until the girls (My girl, Shawna, and her sister, staying in my house for the summer) go back to school. Then I will be lonely and bored, so I'll use the internet again. I am just frustrated with Spam and popups, and having to fix adware, I don't even want to touch the puter. It's mighty difficult to get infected if the power is off!

Cool Bus.
So my friend Phill bought a school bus from a dealer that was in process of getting some old buses from the school we went to. He always used to talk about buying a bus someday, and I only sorta believed him. I went with him on sunday to go check it out and help him work on it. We gutted some of the rotting underportions of the floor and I hooked the flashing lights up for him. I got to drive it around in North Muskegon a little bit too. Here's me standing next to the "Cool Bus:"


Diesel.
Driving the school bus got me thinking about the next car I'm going to buy. Diesel-powered cars achieve 20-40% better fuel economy than gasoline powered equivalents. Based on 2000 data, a diesel-powered truck costs 7 cents less per mile to operate than a gasoline equivalent. (source: www.dieselforum.org) Unfortunately, acquiring a new vehicle powered by diesel though not difficult, is hindered by lack of choice, especially if you don't want a truck. The big 3 Automakers offer light pickups with diesel, but only Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz currently offer passenger cars. Since we're looking at economy here, I suppose we should scratch the one Mercedes model. Volkswagen offers a 1.9L turbodiesel inline four banger in all of their cars, except the GTI and Passat. The Passat TDI has a slightly beefier 2.0 Turbodiesel. It boasts an EPA estimated 27 city, 38MPG highway. I like the Passat myself because I'm a fat american, and the only VW auto that fits me well is the midsized Passat. Base price for the TDI is $23,000. It just may be my next car.
