Mikael on his journal has charged everyone to find some "awesome, new, thoughtful music without distorted guitars and an over-limited mastering job."

Hmm... It's funny thinking about this, as I really have had trouble the last several years getting into new music, especially rock, through the normal channels. I have issues with nearly everything on the radio, playing the same artists seven hundred times a day on several different stations. I have resorted to listening to what is now called classic rock, which consists of a lot of the first music I had around when I was younger, and some from before I was born. I have gotten into some bands that I had previously not paid attention to, or did not hear, but overall, it's getting old, because I am now familar with everything they are playing, and they play the same songs repeatedly. Not to dis Ozzy or anything since I happen to proudly own more Ozzy and Black Sabbath albums than any other artist in my collection, but If I hear Over the Mountain one more time, I'm going to strangle someone. That's not even what *REALLY* pisses me off though. Clear Channel runs two rock stations in this market which are very similar. "Total Rock 101.7 WMRR" plays various hard rock that was popular in the 80s and 90s, but plays a considerable amount of new rock, which I really can't stand, and that's fine. The other, "Pure classic rock all day" 101.3 WBFX will play stuff from mostly the 70s and 80s. That station, however, seems to like playing Nickelback. That stuff really belongs on the other station. "Pure classic Rock all day" my ass! I want to blow chunks every time they play some played out Top 40 song on their "classic rock" station. It literally makes me change the station, and I'm not the channel surfing type. If I wanted that kind of cookie cutter music, I would listen to WMRR to get it every other song, or one of the competitors, WKLQ (Citadel Broadcasting) or WGRD (Regent Communications) who also like to play the same songs repeatedly on a daily basis. Radio makes me ill. I have now resorted to listening to public radio, where there is a delightfully vast mix of jazz and blues in the evenings, and NPR during the day.

The radio has really let down many rock music fans. I now have to rely on the internet and word of mouth now to find new, exciting music. I would like to thank you, Mikael for introducing me to some more wonderful tunes.

Radio is dreadfull here in Michigan. I use the internet and Alternative Press (they may feature the flavor of the month punk band on the cover, but they report on a lot of obscure bands) to locate new sounds.

Here are my current favs that you may or may not like -

Friends Of Dean Martinez - instrumental surf/lounge with a touch of country twang

The Kite-Eating Tree - think softer Quicksand or Helmet

Error - wacked-out digital hardcore

Scarling - metal goddess formally of Jack Off Jill

Your Enemies Friends - synth based post hardcore

Utah! - low key rock-a-billy with a cello

Amen - vicious bile spitting post punk

Boxcar Satan - Punky blues in the veign of The Jesus Lizard

Motion City Soundtrack - pop culture obsessed power pop

Clutch - there's always room for Clutch, the new album is fantastic!

So, yea, if you are bored one night, try downloading some of those, you never know what might catch your ear!
