woah! what a weekend... long long long...
First of all.. last week.. oh god the hell. .nothing particular but I think i've depleted all my serotonin over the Xmas holidays somehow
I don't know what could have caused that
anyway it was crap and i was down for 99% of it..yay..
then things rose from the ashes.. like a flamey birdy thingemijig and all was good... to a point .
Friday was the_girl's birthday which is always good. That night was spent playing Iron Chef chugs/skulls, generally getting pissed (check out the Little Creatures Brewery "Rogers" beer..gah!)... it was a great night and we had a blast
Saturday was cleanup and recovery day. In the end we cleaned up something like 70 bottles of beer, chilled out and watched some cool manga by the creator of Aeon Flux (Peter Chung). It retells the story of Alexander the Great in a way that only Chung can... check it out (Its called Reign) I passed out watching another movie called "Avalon" .. its by the creator of Ghost in the Shell... it looks good though i couldn't really say too much as yeah.. i fell asleep.
Sunday ..well its still sunday and we've just got back from RTRFMs In the Pines fundraiser gig. $10 for like.. a band every half an hour from 12pm till 10pm... it only lasted till 9:30pm though as the clouds opened. Unfortunately we had our Little Birdy experience cut short two songs in but man! what a group. Katy Steele is teh shit!
The bands for the day:
The Avenues (cancelled)
The Bank Holidays (pretty cool..cute)
B Movie Heroes (kind of like...errr The Eagles and Jesus and Mary Chain.. or something)
Capital City (Iggy and the Stooges... cool)
Ease (Blur...too close for comfort)
End of Fashion (too cool for school..these guys rocked out)
The Flairz (didn't see these guys)
Andrew Horabin (this guy is hilarious, a man and his guitar and songs to make you laugh.. Georgie Boy and The Wanking Song)
Il Capininhas (featuring the guitar player from the KuLing Brothers...they were pretty cool)
Life Kwest (hip hop group.. were pretty good but the crowd was unappreciative)
Limousine (its funny, i remember these guys being pretty good, but i can't remember exactly what they sound like, that can't be promising)
The Popular Front (not too bad .. a bit like PJ Harvey ...)
The All New Steve Parkin (didn't catch these guys.. maybe they cancelled)
Red Jezebel ( senior statesmen of Perth Indie rock..or so i'm told.. i guess they were ok..for a mid 90's Perth Indie Rock band)
Salamander (well put together show.. kind of funky, jazzy, hip hop/trip-hop)
Snowman (these guys rocked the kazbah.. inspired by Hammer Horror movies and surfarosa guitar noodlings, the lead singer had great range)
Squire (not catching onto the meaning of their name until the first riff...these guys were heavily inspired and/or are a tribute band to the Stone Roses, especially the Second Coming album...at least thats my guess)
Steve Tallis & The Holy Ghosts (an old geezer a guitar, harmonica, violin and drums.. kind of dark blues/country feel)
The Tigers ( I hadn't heard these guys play since an early gig of theirs at the UWA tav in the 90's ... they seemed to have cultivated their sound quite well..)
Trash Band 1987 (ugh!)
The Volcanics (if you're into this Rock Revival (tm) at the moment you'd have loved the volcanics... certainly radio worthy)
Little Birdy (damnit.. somehow it wasn't meant to be.. two songs in and we were robbed... the clouds which threatened all day finally gave way and let loose a quick 5 minute shower which was enough to send both punter and performer packing (alliteration rocks ne?)... sadly we only got two songs but i was heavily impressed, as was alita, which is saying something... oh well.. better luck next time!)
there ya go... action packed, dramatic and gut wrenching..w00t!
hopefully this week will be a little more sedate/less up-down
