i think we can all agree, those of us that have watched it, with the idea that casablanca is a great film. epic, lush, funny and, above all, really fucking enjoyable. incomparable dialogue and fabulous acting, especially from peter lorre. a true classic, perhaps the best film ever made, if we are considering all aspects of the art of creating film.



conversely, there is a school of thought invested in the idea that the blob, circa 1988, is also really fucking enjoyable. pure cinematic mayhem, with prosthetic effects that look just as good if not better than 99% of the cgi from the last 20 years. and when the film goes into 1958 mode in the final reel, with cheesy bluescreen nonsense, mostly involving flapping tentacles...well, it's just beautiful.



so if you have two films that are equally wonderful in their own way, which do you choose on a sunday afternoon with 69% humidity, a day after you've just steam cleaned the carpets in your home and you're sprawled out on the big soft sofa, drinking white wine?

duh.
