another day up at the canyon.
very interesting sun hidden behind thick clouds.
quiet people.
no good mornings.

halfway up the hill i saw
a very large purple, black, and yellow butterfly
on the ground, struggling.
its wings didn't appear broken.
perhaps it was just not interested in flying.

i bent down and extended my left index finger
and it crawled on.
i walked the rest of the way up the hill with the butterfly sitting calmly on my finger.
when i got to the top i put it near some flowers
and it perched on the bush.

i felt like crying.
