The joys of fighting...

The biggest thing is the weight. You obsess about your weight the entire time you're training because most people need to drop weight for a fight. I weighed myself 5-10 times a day. I could tell you approximately how much weight I would drop if I went to the bathroom and urinated approximately X amount. It's scary.

The food was the biggest issue - I ate a lot but it's really hard to eat enough calories of the good stuff - whole wheat, steamed veggies, low/no sodium, no sauce, grilled meat. I felt wayyy too full sometimes and I resorted to a lot of almond butter to get me through the training period. It tasted good.

Now that I fought, I'm back up a few pounds plus I'm pms'ing so I'm eating a bunch of crappy foods that I'm not used to, I'm bloated as fuck, and I ate wayyyyy too much. Yeah, the joys. Almost everyone I know who has fought for the first time bounced back with their weight.

Since I've eaten almost everything I really wanted to, I'm going to do the lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup fast Thursday, Friday, Saturday for sure. I'm not sure if I should do the Sunday strength and conditioning class with Gavin because it's sort of soon after a fight to really throw myself into an intense workout like that. If I do work out on Sunday, I'll eat normally. Then I'll probably fast Monday and Tuesday and then back to the gym to start working out Wednesday - light of course. I have to remember that I had 5 weeks of intense training and it's about time I gave my body a break and went into a microcycle of recovery time. You get so used to training hard for an extended period of time so it's hard to break that habit and obsession. I think I'll be hitting up Krav Maga classes again.

On the other hand, I can't take too long of a break because I will be fighting at the WKA Nationals in mid-June so another 5-6 weeks of training and weight dropping are ahead of me. I'm not sure if it will be with head gear and shinguards, though. Either way....it still hurts when you get hit. The food is the toughest part - I seriously realize how hard it is to eat out and eat properly for a fight in NYC. I kept on getting food from Energy Kitchen because they cater to fitness people and they have the nutrition information for everything they serve.

I don't miss the sheer exhaustion I felt in the last week of intense training. I found it really hard and tiring to do anything other than train. And training was difficult - getting myself to start moving sucked. I was so fatigued and so out of it. It was pretty intense and interesting. I'm not sure how to explain it.
