Hmm, I love Brooklyn. It's 6:45 a.m. and I hear the police talking to someone through their bullhorn and sounding their siren intermittently. I'm not sure what's going down but a few weeks ago I drove through a huge bust a few blocks north of where I live....there must have been about 50 cops and they were frisking suspects all over the street and their cop cars were everywhere. 3 years ago there was a daytime shooting that went down during a drug bust. I came out of the subway after one of my final exams in the spring and all of a sudden I heard a popping sound which I assumed was a car backfiring. That is, until I saw people diving for cover. I hid behind a car with some other girls. It was briefly frightening but one of the girls seemed completely traumatized. I actually don't mind the police presence - I live on "good side" of Flatbush Avenue. It gets worse the further east you go in Brooklyn. A few years ago my car was stolen and stripped and ended up somewhere in east Brooklyn. Fuckers, I was so pissed.

Last night I watched 28 days later. Not a bad flick although the intro was sort of schlocky - couldn't they have come up with a better name than "rage?" I liked how it introduced the whole concept of running zombies - much more frightening than shambling zombies.

Other horror favorites: The Shining.

I also remember seeing this Elvira VHS that had 3 horror tales on it and one completely scared me. It was about this woman who befriended some weirdly passive and quiet guy with a lot of money. In the end, she pissed him off somehow and he did something like whistle at her......the last scene she gets home to her husband and she's all covered up. Of course he asks what's wrong and she uncovers herself and she's all melted. It was gross. I had nightmares for a while but now I think it was an awesome story.

The first movie I ever saw with running zombies was Return of the Living Dead, circa 1988. For some reason, other movies didn't really seem to pick up on the fact that zombies hauling ass after you might be a little scarier than slowly shambling along, until much later. It's still one of my favourite films.
