Ive had a fairly nasty scar on my chin for a couple of years now. A pleasant day at the skatepark gone bad. High speed, slippery transitions, and hard concrete. My hands never got out in front of me before my face hit. Its something Im used to though, so I generally dont think much of it.
About a year ago I was sitting in a Chinese restaurant with my brother, and my dad. We were discussing how bad the scar still is, as I complained about the shady emergency clinic doctor who stitched the gash back together completely wrong. I guess if Id had medical insurance at the time, it wouldnt have been so bad. Sometimes I seriously consider looking into having it fixed. Sometimes I look at it and think of it as a reminder of the past.
As we finished the meal we received our fortune cookies. Presented eloquently on top of the bill. We all grab a cookie, crack it, and withdraw the crumpled slip of paper. As I read mine, I fight back the urge to laugh. I hand it to my brother to read aloud. He looks back at me with wide eyes, and reads back Keep your chin up, time will heal all wounds
Something as innocuous as a sliver of paper with a vague sentence can make all the difference in your outlook for the day.

I miss old school super mario brothers...It's scary to think how many hours of my grade school life were wasting on trying to save that bitch...
Accept the next proposition you hear.
Much to my surprise, no waiter or bus boy appeared right afterward to chat me up.
