"Slow dance at the end of the night
And everyone's looking who cares if it's right
Your head on my chest I held you so tight
I don't care what they have to say

Our feet were too drunk to keep step in time
But we held fast and we made it through fine
Hell you smiled a lot, hell you smiled a lot

Chairs on the tables they're mopping the floors
We're still dancing just like before
You held me tight, oh you held me tight

The light from the disco ball surrounds us with stars
And I looked like trouble right from the start
You told me so... hell you told me so"

I've sung the praises in previous journals, but I'll say it again.. Lucero is fucking awesome. I haven't seen them since my birthday in Austin almost two years ago, and getting to see them in the dingy old bar up the street last night was amazing. The opening acts were equally amazing, and I don't think I've ever seen a more humble bunch of individuals play before. Over a two hour set, just playing every song that the crowd yelled for until the bar owners finally told them to cut it off. Beautiful words etched into the air with a whiskey soaked voice, and melodic southern chords.

Mon Amour:

My work is sending me away for three days this week for some training. While getting free education is great, this will be the first time I've spent any time away from my love. It's sappy and childish, but we've always been by each others side for months now. We've grown on each other to a ridiculous degree, and I'm not looking forward to spending my evenings alone in a quiet hotel room.

Berlin

You get some Berlin pictures this week. I'm leaving for Texas next week to see the premier of the film we shot there. I've been scrambling for the last week to get some prints finished for the gallery reception after the movie...

Nothing too special.. I just love old cobblestones, and this was the street we walked up to get to the subway from our apartment.

Seriously. Who doesn't like Transvestite Shows?! These posters were everywhere. Germans are fucking weird in the best possible way. I think that's why I loved it there. Everybody follows the rules.. but the place is still crazy.

I am a furniture geek. As an engineer I admire good design and craftsmanship. These chairs were designed by Marcel Lajos Breuer back in 1927 at the Bauhaus School in Dassau Germany. These were lined up against the back window of the school next to the big auditorium. It's hard to express the feeling of staying in the school and seeing all the original work. This little place was responsible for a large part of every design concept we consider "modern" now. It's kind of humbling thinking about things that get designed now, and look dated after a few years. While these people were creating things 70 years ago that are still manufactured, and sold today as contemporary. The devil is in the details.
