I can find a reason that we should quit
I can find a reason to do it
I can find excuses for all my shit
She tells me just to work right through it

Shes pretty and I like her but shes too well
Cuz I need red flags and long nights and she can tell
Its not that its my fault its just my style

Cobblestones and Baguettes:

Im really not sure how to put my trip into words. Ive been home for a couple of hours, and I draw a blank every time someone asks what it was like. Im seriously in love with the place, and think I need to make an effort to live there for at least a year either before school, or after. Its hard to explain, but Ive never felt so inspired, or comfortable in my art, as I was there.

The rough breakdown.

The trip soundtrack was a steady rotation between Bloc Party, VNV Nation, She Wants, Revenge, with a light sprinkling of Grandaddy.

First day in Paris involved wandering the Champs-Elysess shopping, and checking out the touristy stuff. We hopped on a sleeper train, that night, and drank wine, and slept a little on our way south.

Got to the little town Pau at 7 in the morning. Saw a fraction of the Tour de France then drove out to a tiny little town near the Chateau for the wedding. Picnicked on a grass field overlooking a valley while discussing the next days events.

Wedding was absolutely beautiful, and Im fairly certain that the bride and groom are going to have one of the coolest wedding albums ever. Beautiful gardens and archways to shoot in. I had free reign to do whatever crazy pictures I wanted for them, so it was fun playing with shadowy light, and using some of my odd techniques instead of traditional boring wedding photo stuff. It was a ton of hard work, and was dead by the end of the day.

The reception dinner lasted almost 5 hours with 7 courses, and numerous bottles of wine and champagne. The best quote for the trip came from the grooms mother, who in a strong Texan accent told me that shes Not very photogenic and that if I found any pictures of her that were unflattering that I should hide them. I laughed, and then she put her arm around my waist and said But I have magnificent breasts!

Finally caught up on sleep the next morning. Then hopped a train to Bordeaux. The place is absolutely amazing in a dirty old city kind of way. Tiny medieval style back streets, and run down cathedrals. We just wandered around and got lost in the alleys until sunset. We then found a little Mediterranean food restaurant, next to the river, and sat outside with a bottle of Champaign, to watch the Bastille Day fireworks with all the locals.

Next morning we wandered around a little more, then found a huge fountain. It was ridiculously hot, so we jumped the little fence, and waded around in the water to cool off for a bit. Took another train back to Paris that afternoon.

Our hotel in Paris was awesome. We got stuck in the attic level. At first we thought it was going to suck, but then we got up there, and realized that it was a huge room. The big windows in the bathroom looked right out over the rooftops of Paris, straight towards the Eiffel tower.

We were scheduled to shoot some various architecture pieces over the next two days, but decided to just blow it off, and hang out. Went to a couple of museums. Saw a ton of Van Goghs, and my first Warhol. We just ended up wandering the city aimlessly stopping by touristy landmarks, and exploring the old neighborhoods. Sat at the Eiffel Tower and watched the sunset one night.

Chasing the setting sun:

The trip back was hellish. For some reason they closed my flight early from Paris and wouldnt let me board. I ended up spending 25 minutes at the counter, and $200 to catch a flight that left only 20 minutes after my initial flight. Bullshit.

I ended up on standby seats in Miami, and Dallas. I got bumped from all the flights, and was in the Dallas airport for 24 hours. The only consolation being $600 in flight vouchers because of their fuck-ups. And the overpriced "irish pub" that served me Newcastle with my breakfast. Got home at 10:00 last night, borderline delirious with jet lag, sleep deprivation, and plain old frustration. I got a bit of sleep before having to get up for work, but Im definitely in a surreal state still.

Yeah, it's in Boston, but the show's on Oct 1st, so you'd still be in town, right? If not, it's about a four hour train ride from NYC, and it's usually around $50 each way.

We just bought our tickets to the show last night, so I'm pretty sure there is still plenty available.
