Had a long talk with a good friend of mine over the phone last night. She's feeling depressed and stagnant and unhappy and just doesn't know what to do about it. After talking to her for a while, it sounds like she wasn't particularly interested in doing anything at all proactive to alter her presently unsatisfactory state. I understand that doing so isn't the easiest thing in the world. Hell, I've been there plenty of times myself, but it's frustrating to hear that from someone you care about whom is hurting and feeling helpless. You're never helpless! Leastways that's my thinking...

I know a lot of folks that, in difficult times, have just resigned themselves to the notion that fate will do what it will and that everything will just work itself out eventually if it's meant to. To a degree, I subscribe to that philosophy. However, I feel that it is negligent to simply throw up one's hands and not take responsibility for oneself using this philosophy as an excuse. That's a cop out. I don't think "fate" works in a vacuum. I tend to function more on the karmic theory of things where our present thoughts and actions can and do change and determine our future paths, and taking action and making choices makes a huge difference.

I know inactivity is a choice and an action, etc. It just frustrates me when people use it as an excuse.

Frisbee is the answer. Looks like a gorgeous day today.
