I feel pretty weird about the recent controversies here on the site. Weird and sad. I don't like to see people denigrated when they meant no wrong.

People make mistakes, people have different tastes, but pointing the finger and branding someone with a scarlet letter when they were just doing their thing without ill-will towards anyone bothers me. I know this whole situation around here has been more complex than that, but that is the particular bit that troubles me.

Cripes, the slavery of one people and the genocide of another are integral blocks of our own country's foundation. Those things have happened across the world in all continents through time immemorial since mankind has been numerous enough to congregate in groups.

Bleah. Internecine politics just make me sad. Perhaps I'm too much of a die-hard idealist. I just feel like compassion and understanding are more important than our personal emotional reactions to something we may have issue with.

It's complicated.



- I think this fucking war is making everyone twitchy. The fact that it isn't just going to be nice, neat, open and shut is starting to set in. It's a real war and people, lots of people, are starting to die and the situation is shaking the moral fiber of the planet.
