*** Warning: Long Journal Entry ***

If you are in the mood for a book-like journal entry, please proceed to click on the spoiler tag. Anyone who makes it through the whole thing gets mad props. Be warned, there are a lot of pics as well. kiss

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
So without further ado, for those of you who have been patiently waiting, I give you my 2005 Chicago Trip Journal! biggrin *drum roll please*

Our trip started out at 1:00 am on Friday morning, with Teerox driving first. She ended up driving through the state of Ohio, at about 90 mph the whole way, and I drove through Indiana and the tiny bit of Illinois before Chicago. I think I got the better end of the deal. wink We are as good as any man at a speed road trip!

Teerox driving at 2am

Mmmmm Burger King. Who doesn't like see food?

Streching feels so good

The best part of the drive was definitely the mix tape my roommate made us entitled Sapphic Chicago Road Trip Mix. Neither one of us had any idea what the word Sapphic meant but after listening to a few songs, it was clear that he thought we were going to Chicago for a lesbian orgy fest. A girl can dream. wink

The whole way through Indiana we kept seeing these weird farm contraptions. I think its a sprinkler system, but if someone can let me know for sure, Id appreciate it. blush

Sprinkler system?

Finally we got to a point outside of the city where we could see the skyline in the distance. Teerox pointed out that it didnt look much bigger than Pittsburgh.

Skyline from afar

Then over the Chicago Skyway Bridge, which cost $2.50. Yes, thats right, $2.50 to drive over a very short bridge. whatever At this point the city looked a bit bigger but still not really that huge. This is because you come in at the north part of the city and cant see past all of the first skyscrapers. Our hotel was only about three blocks into the town, which made it super easy to find and get too.

One thing that completely shocked me was the lack of traffic in the city. I mean I was expecting crazy bumper to bumper traffic downtown. They had stop signs on several blocks instead of lights even. I think maybe most ppl use public transportation? That or a lot of ppl werent working because they took Friday off for a long weekend. Either way I was happy because I was a bit nervous about driving in what I thought would be monster traffic.

First things first, we checked into our hotel and took a two hour nap. We deserved it! Heres a pic of the lovely Teerox enjoying her beauty rest. biggrin

Isn't she cute. She has no idea I took this either. biggrin

Once awake we walked the five blocks to the closest Visitors Center and picked up a Public Transportation and Attraction Map. With my geographical inadequacies and inability to read a map, I was a bit frightened and asked the lady to give me examples of how to get places. I told her that I wanted to go to Belmont and Halsted as this is where someone told me all the happening clubs were at. She kindly told me that this is where all the gay bars are at. I got some good advice! biggrin

Our first object of business in Chicago was some pizza!! We promptly headed off to walk the eight blocks to Ginos East, a highly recommended pizza place.

On the way, Teerox met a wierd guy dressed head to toe in Marine garb including USMC hat, pins, and the whole nine yards. She made me stop and talk to him. surreal Shes kind of embarrassing like that. I got her back though by pulling out my tourist map at every opportunity. biggrin (This map was freaking awesome and by the end of day 1, we were pros at getting around the city)

Creepy wierdo guy

Finally we arrive at Ginos East and wait 30 minutes for a medium cheese pie that cost $16. eeek While we waited, we took out my two inch thick Chicago Folder and began to plan our itinerary for the next two days. We quickly realized we wouldnt have enough time or money to do nearly all the things we wanted to. frown

The pizza was worth every penny though. love Delicious is an understatement. We both only ate one piece and got the rest to go.

I'ts like a sauce and cheese pie!!

After a quick stop to put the rest of our pizza in the hotel mini fridge, it was off to the Hancock Observatory for a ride up to the 94th floor and a view of the city, which shows you how big downtown Chicago really is. Id say at least 10 times the size of Pittsburgh. It was so beautiful with Lake Michigan to one side and the city to the other. You could even see our hotel from there! I also got to pretend like I was a window washer. Seriously though, who does that job up 100 stories? No thanks.

Our hotel is the one with the red sign

Look at me clean those windows!

At this point, we were ready to brave public transportation and got our first bus to Cultural Center and then Sears Tower for a south prospective of the city from the 106th floor. We quickly realized that the bus was the way to go. It was quick, easy and definitely more pleasant on the feet.

Sears Tower was great too! Back to back views of the city from two different perspectives. Sears Tower is at the very south end of the downtown area, so you can see how long the city stretches on for.

After that my knee was starting to hurt and it was raining so we decided to get dinner. I had brought a Chicago Entertainment Coupon Book with me so I flipped through that and looked for the cheapest place I could also find on the map. Off to the Blue Frog we go!

Once getting there, it looked kind of small. We decided to walk at least to the door. It really looked like a hole in the wall with about 4 bar stools and 4 tables. No one was in there eating. I looked to Teerox and asked if we were brave enough to venture inside. The rain, our tired feet and lack of desire to find another place led us to sit down. We ordered, the food was indeed cheap, and played a game of Candyland while we waited. Teerox kicked my ass. What a bitch. tongue After that, our food arrived and we were amazed at its deliciousness. Thank goodness we ignored our first impression. Not much beats cheap good food except maybe cheap good sex. wink

She looks so smug

Back to the hotel we go to get ready for our first night of clubbing. In the hotel lobby Teerox and I see a large group of hot English boys partying it up in our tiny, crappy looking hotel bar. We both wish we could join them but our lack of time, not to mention our married status, kept us moving to our hotel room. biggrin We were going to wear skirts but the hotel was out of irons to loan out. Jeans it is then! Good thing though because we would have been seriously overdressed.

Teerox getting ready

On the way out of the hotel, we saw the hot British boys again, but kept on our way. We took our first subway to Boystown, the gay area of Chicago, and had a blast. The subway is so much fun!! Its not scary either. Unless of course you are in the first seat and can see the car in front of you moving all around like crazy. eeek

Our first club, Berlin, was literally right across the street from the Subway exit and didnt look like much from the outside. After a $5 cover, we went to the bar for our first drinks and ordered. Much to my surprise it was only $4.50 for a vodka & cranberry. I had been warned about drink prices, but this is the same price as youd pay downtown Pittsburgh. Needless to say I was delighted! I had brought $50 with me for drinks and only spent like $25.

Id say we got there at about midnight. There were only a couple girls there, which were mostly arm candy for the gay boys, and one person dancing. It was rather empty actually. Tee and I decided to have one more drink before calling Berlin a bust. About half way through that drink we looked around and realized, holy fuck its crowded in here! Id say it was 12:45 or so and Berlin had suddenly become packed with hot gay boys grinding on each other. love This certainly made up for the lack of approachable women. Teerox kept making the boys make out with each other, and they loved it.

Eventually I made my way out to the middle of the dance floor. Around 1:00 this bar turns into a mass of hot bodies grinding on each other. Its like foreplay, you couldnt avoid people if you wanted to. And trust me, you definitely wouldnt want to. wink The music is so amazing and sexy as well. It made me miss my husband. biggrin

At about 1:45 I asked Teerox the time and was sad to find out it was almost time to go home. Then a girl standing nearby informed us that the club didnt close until 4:00am. HOLY SHIT!! FUCKING SWEET!! I ordered another drink and went back to my sex pit of a dance floor for another hour! At some point I lost the shirt I had tied around my waist, my favorite black button up that goes with everything, and there was no way to find it. Ah well, it was worth it. biggrin

About 3am we head back on the subway to the hotel for 4 hours of sleep. We are waking up at 8am for an early day of sightseeing!

We must have had too much to drink and not enough sleep because we forgot to ask for a wake up call and didnt wake up until 10:30 am. Oops. blush We removed a couple things from our list of things to see and headed out to the International Museum of Surgical Sciences. We accidentally took the wrong bus, which was an express so it didnt stop, past the museum and then another bus back. We might have been a little lost at this point so we asked a guy on a bench to help us find the Museum. He actually happened to be a surgeon and knew right were to point us. Hows that for luck?

Im gonna take a break here to say how nice the people in Chicago were. I dont know what I was expecting New York indifference, LA fakeness? We saw neither. The people in Chicago were so amazingly nice. Twice when we appeared lost, people came over to help us without us even asking. Not only are Chicagoans nice, but theyre freaking hot! I swear that I saw barely any overweight or ugly people while I was there. I was impressed to say the least. It actually kind of reminded me of Pittsburgh, a hard working mentality of a town with friendly people, except Pittsburgh is full of mostly old people. whatever

But I digress, I think a lot of SGers would like the surgical museum. Its a perfect blend of gore and knowledge. biggrin Basically its four stories of old surgical equipment, procedures and pictures of surgeries through the years.

A picture of some guys getting his enlarged balls removed. eeek

A very strange birthing procedure, I'd say

A picture of a mummy's head. Pretty nasty!

On our way to the next attraction, Field Museum, we noticed HUGE amounts of people walking towards Soldier Field.

Me being the football fan that I am knew it wasnt football season so I asked some guy what was going on and found out that England was playing the U.S. in soccer. I was amazed at how many people were going to the game and Id say 40% of the crowd was English supporters. Now thats team devotion man. Now we knew why there were a bunch of hot Brit boys staying at our hotel!! love For anyone who cares, the UK won.

Our next attraction was the Field Museum. Our first impression driving by was Holy Fuck Its HUGE and our second was Were never going to have enough time to see it all

We were right on both accounts. We had about 3 hours of time before they closed and practically ran through the museum without reading any of the info plaques and our cameras flashing. All together we didnt do too badly though. I saw my first ever dinosaur exhibit along with exhibits about Native American Indians, Asian Pacific Islands, and Gems & Jade (talk about gorgeous! :love). We also started to go into the Egypt section but it was inside a pyramid and had really small tunnels with too many ppl. My claustrophobia kicked in and I chickened out, making Teerox sad, but she loves me and understood. kiss

New Guinea tribesman would loop this around a enemies head and then thrust the point into his neck. eeek

After our mad rush through the Field Museum we caught a bus to Navy Pier, to ride the ferris wheel (against my wishes) and to watch the fireworks that started in a couple hours. We ended up going through the Funhouse Maze, which was cheesy but kind of fun. The mirror maze was freaking hilarious.

Random pic of a puking mannequin. I couldn't resist.

We were at Navy Pier for about 30 minutes, just strolling down the boardwalk when who else called but LadyK!! We arranged to meet up for dinner in 30 minutes which meant we left the Navy Pier without riding the ferris wheel. I think Teerox thinks I planned it this way on purpose. wink

We had a great time with LadyK at dinner and also met Affinity and Spiked, who were both awesome as well. Didnt I say ppl in Chicago were really nice? Although Affinity is from Detroit, she fits the standard. biggrin LadyK is just all around sweetness. Shes also really petite, which I wouldnt of guessed for such a huge personality. wink

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for night number two of clubbing and an older, unattractive British man accosted us in the hallway and begged us to go have drinks with them. We said no a couple times but he wasnt taking no for an answer. Plus, maybe the soccer team would be there? Yah, they werent, so we had a drink with 6 mid 40s drunken British guys while they sang songs to us such as, Eeeee N Gaaaah Laaaaand and Shooooow Us Yoooouuuur Tiiiiiiiiits We didnt cave and both remained clothed for the whole 5 minutes it took to chug our drinks and run the hell out of there, even though they were more than willing to get naked in return. whatever Really though, they were quite amusing and I think they were harmless. wink

For our second night out, we decided to hit The Closet, which we were told was a couple blocks from Berlin. After walking for 20 minutes and about 16 blocks mad we finally found it and were not impressed. The drinks were more expensive and not as strong. There were a lot of girls there but no dance floor and it was more of a local hangout where everyone knew each other than a meat market like we were looking for. We decided to go back to Berlin and I hailed my very first cab! I felt very Sex and the City. biggrin

We got there at about 1am and partied our asses off until close since we didnt have to wake up early the next day. Teerox was assaulted by a tranny and there were some fine girlies dancing on the elevated stage for us to gawk at. The club was supposed to close at 4am but when they stopped the music and kicked us out, it was light outside. Fucking awesome! We need some clubs like that around The Burgh!

By the time we got back to the hotel we were in so much pain from all of our walking and dancing. It was so worth it though. We woke up at 10am to check out of our hotel and got $5 back for our keycard deposit. This did very little to make our empty, aching pockets feel any better. wink

Once checked out, we got the car and drove through downtown to Chinatown. Again, I was surprised by the lack of traffic and it was really cool to drive downtown because it made me feel like a local.

Eventually we realized that we left $8 worth of pizza at the hotel. frown

Chinatown was cool. A cute little strip mall with neat shops and restaurants. We bought some stuff, but not much as we were broke and then we had a really bad Chinese dinner. Go figure. whatever

After that it was time to head home. It took us about an hour and a half longer to get home because there were so many cops in Ohio. Must have been the holiday weekend. Teerox didnt hit 90 once. wink While driving home we made a numbered list of everything we did because we are dorks and we didnt have anything else to do. tongue Neither one of us slept on the way home either. Boy do we like each others company or what?

At some point in our two days there, we bought fake Prada bags. Again, feeling very Sex in the City! This was the only shopping we did, even though the many stores on Magnificent Mile were so hard to resist.

Id have to say that Chicago has taken over Phoenix as the second best city Ive ever visited. For anyone who knows me, thats saying a lot. wink

THE END!!

There are all of my pics of Chicago, and I will upload mngddss's when I get them. If anyone is interested in looking at over 200 pictures, perhaps around 300.
