Ok, I haven't posted science news in here before, but this is pretty exciting for me.

Let me sum it up with a few quotes from the article:
"Scientists ... have created the first reproducible single molecule negative differential resistor."

What's this?
"Negative Differential Resistor is the basis for memories, switches and logic elements, It has been observed in molecules before but never in controlled conditions, never at low voltages, and not in a predictable way.

What does this mean?
"The main value of the finding is not in having found a molecule that could be developed into a working electrical switch, but in discovering some critical design parameters that should make possible successful research in designing molecular devices."

What are molecular devices and what is so exciting about them?
*from the Foresight Institute
"As nanoscale technologies advance, they will enable the development of molecular manufacturing, a more systematic and powerful nanotechnology using nanoscale machines to build large-scale, atomically precise products cleanly, at low cost. This sort of nanotechnology the vision that inspired the field as a whole will transform our physical technology from the bottom up, enabling digital control of the structure of matter."

So. I think Arizona State's demonstration was an important step. Stuff like this seems to be happening once every few weeks, tho. Keeping up with science is fun.

Anybody here ever see a Lloyd Lindsay Young weather report?

He yells, "SCIENCE!!" at each change of the map...
