thanks for the tips... I live in an all-linux world, so although I know that it's possible to do decent, and even good, recording stuff, it's a bit of a headache. drivers for soundcards and such are are a real crapshoot in linux.

The music business is really depressing sometimes. I can't believe how many bands there are here. It didn't used to be like that. Now it's like a big deal to be from Portland, it's kind of hard to believe.

By partner in self-control, I really meant "partner in control of my faculties". I don't like the feeling of being drunk, either. Especially in public. never really have. I've got that strong maternal instinct, so I always feel like I need to be able to take care of others if they need it....
