The day has finally arrived! That monumental day where I turn 40 years old. They say it's all downhill from here. I cannot be certain whether that is truly the case, because I feel as though the most significant years of my life still lay ahead. I have my graduation from the university at the end of this year and my long-awaited holiday to England & Scotland at the start of next.
Sometimes I look at my current place in life: 40 years old, still single, having the stigma of being a "40 year old virgin", working an hourly retail job. But then, I look at the alternatives. I'm 40 years old, but I have good health. I'm single, but I am not in an abusive relationship. I am still a virgin, but I haven't wasted it just to get some high that I'd later regret. I work a lowly hourly retail job, but I have a job that is sufficient to cover all of my needs.
What is my takeaway? It is true that I may not be where I had dreamed I would be at this stage in my life. But I have so much to be thankful for. And I have so many good things still to come in my life. I suppose the greatest lesson I have learned thus far in my life is to find the positives in the midst of the negatives, focus on the positives, and use those positives to encourage others. I may be in a humble state in life, but I am content. More than that, I am absolutely blessed. Blessed to be in a place where I can move forward and truly succeed in life.
You all have been a tremendous community to be a part of. It has been a pleasure to find such a respectful community with a shared passion for beauty in all its forms. I look forward to continuing my involvement here, both in my 40th and beyond.
