If the breakup was mutual where they decided they would both end it, yes they could be friends. However, if it wasn't mutual, the one that ended it 'could' be friends because they are 'over' the other but the one that had the relationship ended on them can never be just friends because the ending wasn't what they wanted.

When I first read the question ... I was certain that I didn't really have a celebrity that inspired me the most.....
