I was just reading through a few of the active threads and found one entitled 'Anyone Hate Emo'?
Now, as I have mentioned before, and as you can tell from my likes list, I have broad and eclectic musical tastes. I think categorising music is almost like being racist - why does society always have to put a label on things?
I can't say 'I hate emo', even though I dislike the music of Bright Eyes and Saves the Day and any of those bands typically labelled as emo, because I think a lot of the bands that I do like would probably categorised as 'emo' as well. Man, you couldn't get more 'emo' than John Mayer! And just because I don't like these bands doesn't mean I am going to get all high and mighty and rip into those people that do. I respect their choices in music. It's cool that we have so much choice, and that everyone has different tastes.
Anyway, doesn't the word 'emo' derive from the word 'emotional', and wouldn't you say that ALL music is emotional? It really rides me. Who is to say what is and isn't 'emo'.
Yeah, so I think you get my point, and I hope I haven't sounded nasty or bitter, I just think that music is something that almost anyone who is human loves, and what we choose to listen to should be embraced and respected. Part of the problem with modern society is that we have too many labels for things, which leads to segregation and hatred for things that are different.
I am proud to say that Enrique Iglesias, Robbie Williams and Justin Timberlake are no longer 'guilty pleasures'!!! Stand up and be proud people! If you secretly love that new Britney song on the radio, don't hide it, sing it at the top of your lungs while waiting for green at the traffic lights! We can start the revolution! Although on that note, I don't really want to encourage Britney. There is the small question of talent over tits...wink
On a completely different note, my very good friend Allana is back from the UK for a month, so today we went for a picnic in the botanical gardens. It was awesome. I think everyone should have at least one picnic a month! smile

Yeah I've discussed the term "emo" quite often with people, and I pretty much disregard the term as it is too general, I would say all music is emotional.
Later wink
