My day started @03:30. In to work by 04:00. Draw weapons, do manifest and move out to Green Ramp. The T.O.T.(time over target) is 12:00 noon. On the plane, a C-17, with a minute to green light, the first pass gets scratched. Why, I don't know. The guys of the first pass get to stand while we racetrack around the dropzone. The second time around they jumped. Now it was our turn.
Man, waiting for the green light to go, is a rush of fear and excitment. There is NOTHING like it.
The landing, on the other hand, well...sucks. Mine at least sucked. It is amazing just how hard a 6 mile an hour wind can slam you into the ground. I almost flipped feet over head.
The dropzone is so hot. Especially when you are wearing bodyarmor. Even with out the plates. It sucks. The temp was like 95.
But in the end, any landing that you can walk away from, is a good one.
