I've realized that absorbing good art always realligns my perceptions regarding my own. It all becomes as easy as do it or don't do it. "Hack or pack." People will tell you its more complex than that, but at its basest level, you do the thing or you don't. I want to do the thing.
I just listened to the entirety of Sleep's "Dopesmoker." My mind has been melted and re-constituted, somehow better and more twisted than it was before. That record will fuck your shit up. It'll make you want to kill a dragon or liberate a tribe of dwarves or some shit. Awesome.
We're driving up to Frisco this weekend to drop my brother off, so he too can experience San Francisco State. I will miss him. Little fucker will do it much better and with more style than I. Always has.
I really wish I knew more about cars. As a nerd, I was born of nerd stock. You'd figure, my dad is from Western Pennsylvania, so he should either be Amish, or a grizzled ex-steel working mechanic. But noooooooo, he's a dork, just like me. Combine that with being raised primarily by my mechanically inept mother, and you have a recipe for an asthmatic who can't drive a stick. I swear, I also have desirable characteristics, I think.
I'm going to read Moby Dick. I figure I should. Its one of those big ass books that gets referenced a lot in popular culture, but no one reads it on account of being fucking huge. I'ma slay the beast though. Ixnay on the War and Peace though for now. Tolstoy has never really hit me right.
If you get the chance and catch it on cable, or netflix it, check out "Live Forever." Its a documentary about the whole Brit-pop thing of the 90's, starting with the Stone Roses at Spike Island, through Oasis, Blur, and Pulp, etc. Please watch it, if only for the inimitable Gallagher brothers. Between Noel's genuinely funny candor and Liam's short mumbled answers followed by long, awkward pauses, it makes for quality viewing:
Interviewer: So, what is (the Oasis song) "Live Forever" about?
Liam: It's about livin' forever, innit.
Remember kids. Kill Whitey. Always, always, always, Kill Whitey.
