I know that I haven't updated in a while, but this previous weekend started last Tuesday and since then things have been going non stop.

On Tuesday night Mle and I went to see Garbage live in NYC. The opening band The Dead 60s just blew us both away. Neither of us were expecting it at all when they came on stage because they had a very colliegate, frat boy look about them, but their sound was kind of a mix between the current Interpol/Franz Ferdinand trend of indie and The Clash's brand of very dub reggae infused punk. They also went from song to song with no breaks at all for nearly their entire set. I find that to be very cool and it keeps the energy level up. Some opening bands do it just to fit in an extra song or two during their time slot, but I get the impression these guys just like how it worked. I'm dying to get some of their music DLed.

Garbage were fun, as well. They did a good mix of old hits and new songs. Unfortunately they didn't play all of my old favorites and I don't have the new album yet, so I was a tiny bit disappointed by the show. Not bad, but not the best show I've ever seem in my entire life.

Afterwards, we hit a local Irish watering hole in midtown that I know of and met up with NewYorkMatt for he and Mle's first date thingy, which is still going on. To read more on that epic saga I direct you to her journal, or his, or both of theirs. This journal is about my life damnit. Nah, we had a good time and he's an interestingly funny character, with a really sly, witty sense of humor.

We all came back to my house that night and the next day we did a huge food shopping spree in anticipation for the influx of people scheduled to visit over the course of the weekend.

The next guest to arrive was chrisalis, one of Mle's best friends from Delaware, on Wednesday night. She is away spending the summer at a workshop program in NY State. She and Mle hadn't seen each other in quite some time, so it was nice that she was able to come here and they would be able to hang out again for a bit. We had a quick hamburger dinner before I left for work. Derceto dropped in while I was gone and they all partied while I was off breaking my ass doing hard labor at the railroad.

Due up next to arrive on Thursday afternoon was Sid, Brie, and Brie's friend. It ended up they all found places to stay in the city closer to the Fashion Show. Oh yeah, since I failed to mention why everyone was all in town it was for the SG Fashion Show that was going on.

It was bittersweet that they all were going to stay in the city. It had been a while since I had seen Brie and Sid and would have been even nicer to have them come stay so that there would have been more time to hang out and chat, but things were getting very confusing as to who was coming and going and when they were going to be coming and going, not to mention keeping everyone well fed. So it might have been for the best they stayed in the city. Who am I kidding? I really wish that they had come out and stayed with us.

So Friday the last guest arrived, the best guest yet, the one and only Fenchurch. We ended up getting into town much later than expected due to unforeseen circumstances, and arrived too late to see the Fashion show, but still in time to hang out with all the people who had come for it. And there were an awful lot that did. Arlene's Grocery, the tiny bar it was held at was completely and overwhelmingly packed.

We decided to put together a smaller group and headed off to a Lesbian bar. Funny in a way cause there were so many straight couples with us. Myself and Fen, Matt and Mle, Spyro and Mr. Spyro, Sixsixty and Tuxy. We got there just before it filled up and it was a great time. I particularly liked the music and would go back just to hear it again.

Fenny and I kept it an early night and headed back to NJ around 1:30. Yeah, that is an early night in NYC where the bars actually stay open til 4am.

Saturday morning, um, I mean, afternoon when we finally got out of bed, we went for a nice sushi lunch. Our waiter was this great Japanese guy who had the total rockabilly look pegged. A slicked back pompador with these awesome angled sideburns. He had it down perfectly. So much so I could just about see him out swing dancing somewhere.

That night Mle and Matt, my nephew and his girlfriend came over for a three course dinner that Fenchurch and I prepared for everyone. A beautiful fresh garden salad, an Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, and fresh mozzerella lasagne, and for dessert strawberry and banana shortcake. Yeah, I know, your jealous, but don't be. Just let me know when you're going to be in town and I'll invite you over for dinner too.

Back into the city again for the SG Fashion show after party on saturday night. It was a formal and trendy affair, but interesting and fun none the less. Once you found the people you wanted to chat with it got even better. Again we kept it an early night and were home by 2 am. Thanks for the invite Aspen!

By Sunday morning things had mostly mellowed out. After a pancake breakfast we went back into NYC to meet up with Fenny's ride home and Mle and Matt. Fenny took off back to school while we went over to the Brooklyn Musuem of Art to see the Jean-Michel Basquiat show. I don't know if I was just missing my girlfriend or if I was just not as impressed as I thought I would be, but it just didn't blow me away. It was good, just not great. The Dali show in Philly I saw last month however, I highly recommend.

So today was the last day of the long weekend of crazed visitors. I went back into New York to pick up Mle and we had lunch with Sixsixty and tuxy. Just a quick trip in for burritos at San Loco and then we were back off to NJ. We just decided to have some pizza for dinner and then she'll be on her way home as I leave for work tonight. That sounds like a good plan.

When are you coming to visit me? I'm lonely.
