I had an interesting weekend. The plan was for a whole bunch of us to head out to Pittsburgh to the big New Year's Party penny and Destro had put together. Well at the last minute a few of the people had to back out and basically left Mle and myself with no real easy way to get there. Mle ended up staying behind, but I had to be there so I used my ultra, secret, super Amtrak powers and trained my way across Pennsylvania to get there just in time to DJ. Thanks also to the help of Project605, Niamh, and Trevor, who picked me up at the station.
I honestly don't know how we were able to coordinate this all. A few weeks back I broke the antena on my cell phone. It was still getting a pretty good signal for the most part as long as I held the thing in place and stood in one spot while I was talking. Well, that got a bit old after a while, so since I had an hour lay over in 30th St Station in Philly on my way to Pittsburgh I went over to the Verizon counter to have them fix it. $42 and 55 minutes later, almost missing my train, the woman hands me my phone back and says, "I think that should work. I've never done the repair on that kind before."
From the moment I left Philly I've been struggling to get a signal ever since. I'm lucky if I get two bars. All the communications that took place between me and the folks in Pittsburgh were via text messages. It was brutal. I'd write out like 6 different messages and then have to wait until I was in the station at some major city (not very many between Philly. and Pitts.) and then send them all off before we got back on the move again. I went the rest of the weekend without my phone because it was driving me nuts.
Anyway back to the positive side of things. The DJ gig went well. I played a whole bunch of fun tracks and had the dancefloor packed. That always makes me feel good.
Back on the sad side of things, as a surprise, Micah had brought up Poison all the way from Kentucky to hang out with Mle. Being that M was back in Delaware they never did get to see each other. It was a great idea, and it would have certainly blown her away to see Poison there, but next time it'll just have to be a planned thing.
Saturday was mostly relaxing and catching up on lost sleep from the night before. Myself, penny and her bf, Glenn went out to dinner and had a few drinks. That was really nice. Her bf is super cool and anytime that I get to spend with penny is always wonderful. She's such a joy to be around. One of my favorite people in the whole world.
My train back home left Pittsburgh at 4:41am. Yeah, I know, that sucks. I cabbed it over from penny's to the station which was actually a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Rode down to DC this time to catch a connecting train home.
Sitting in the DC station as they were announcing the various stops I thought, "Hey, Mle's on my way home." So I found a spot with a signal and called her up. "What do you say we get lunch?" She got me at the train station in her town a few hours later and then we hung out for a bit at her house.
If you are an avid reader of both our journals for any reason you are going to get two very different conflicting stories on what happened next. We were playing with her kitties, Maddy and Kitton upstairs and on our way back down to her room I noticed her fall to the floor. According to her journal she claims there was some pushing from behind. While I'm here to tell you straight out the girl needs walking lessons. She just busted her ass all by herself.
Honestly though, it was pretty scary. She had missed her footing on the last stair and twisted up her ankle pretty badly. I was so worried that it was broken or something, but M's a trooper and she just grinned and beared the pain. (btw, you should see the faces she makes while doing that
) We still ended up going out to a lovely dinner at her local Mexican place. The food was great and we got serenaded by the marachai guys. They were great. After dinner we went and got coffee and tea at the Borders bookstore. Looked at some cool books and then I was off back home on the next northbound.
Had an easy night at work tonight, for which I am very greatful. Now I'm off to bed to get some much neeeded rest.
