Well, I think I have most of my computer problems finally figured out. I got a new operating system and that solved some of the issues I had been having. Hopefully this is the last time. If not I'm strongly considering a Mac laptop. I've begun to have enough of these BS PC problems.
So, since I've gotten back from my visit to California for the SG Prom I can't stop thinking about moving there. It wouldn't be for a few years at best, but as soon as the company I work for becomes nation wide it's a strong possiblity that I will be on my way to San Fran for good.
Most people who know me know how much I love NYC. I'm the biggest fan of everything it has to offer, but in the end I have to give credit to San Francisco for having much nicer weather, being much cleaner, and having a lot less attitude. I've never been to a place I've like so much, aside from Glasgow, Scotland, but I don't think I could actually move there.
The prom was fantastic. Actually my whole stay was great from start to finish. My first night in town Glassheart and TheTrooper took me to see Pretty Girls Make Graves. They did a killer show at Cafe du Nord. They have so much energy live and sounded absolutely perfect.
The next few days I spent in San Jose with the boys from Sloe, Punt and Muller. Two very gracious hosts, who did their best to show me a good time in their home town. San Jose is pretty cool and the house they live in kicks all ass. It is so classy. It was built in 1904 and has stained glass windows all around, hard wood floors, and one of those cool old styled toilets with the high mounted backtank. Even the stove was old school. They have a very strange neighbor though. Don't invite him in if you expect to have any beer or food left after he leaves. Not to mention he won't stop talking while you are watching TV.
While I was staying with them I got to sit in on some of the final sessions of the recording of their new lp. Let me tell you, it's gonna be incredible when it's all done. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. These guys have really done a great job recording it and I wish them all the success that they deserve.
The last couple of days I was on the west coast I spent staying at the San Remo Hotel in San Francisco. I did some of the touristy sight seeing. Shopped on Market and Haight Streets. Went to Pier 39, saw the sea lions, and had chowder out of a bread bowl. Took a ride on the cable cars, went to a museum and saw a great exhibit on Art Deco. I highly recommend it to anyone who lives in the area. I also took the traditional walk out on the Golden Gate Bridge. It's not hard to understand why so many people travel so far just to see it. It really is an amazing structure. Actually I was impressed with all of the bridges in the bay area. I especially liked the San Mateo Bridge. That bastard is long as hell.
I also took in a few of the SG events that had been planned around the prom. Hung out at Tuffy's poster show at Lucky 13 on Wednesday night. Had a few drinks with the folks who had come into town early. Saw my old friends Coco and DreamMaker again, met Holly, and finally got to meet the legandary MisterSatan. That was a long time coming. He is every bit as cool in person as I expected he would be. Truly a great guy.
Friday night held the curry dinner, and what a turn out. I don't know if there was a headcount, but I'm guessing that there must have been at least 50 SG members or more at the restaurant. Unreal. It was great to see some of my old friends again. Roxy and I got caught up on what's happened since I last saw her over a year ago. I got to hang with Pip and Sid again. It's been a while since I've seen them both. Had a chance to meet a bunch of new folks including Adore, Cedar, Jazmin, MacBastard, among others. The food was good, but I get the impression we overwhelmed the wait staff and I doubt that they want us back any time soon. One of the funniest moments for me was when one of the non SG patrons asked me what we were all celebrating. Always a tough question to answer to strangers at an SG event. I told her that we were an online community and that we were having a punk rock prom here in SF. "Oh, that sounds so cool. I wish my daughter knew about it. I'm sure she would love to go." I'm not so sure that you want your daughter hanging out with us perverts, ma'am. If only I could have said that for real.
The prom was my last night in town and it was the perfect way to end the trip. I was fortunate enough to have one of the cutest dates, Glassheart. And she looked stunning in her red and white polka dot dress and matching shoes. I got to meet a lot people that I have seen online for years and to be able to put names to faces was really cool. Scopitone, McQueen, thepromdate, and a bunch of others were super nice and really made me feel welcome to the west coast. I have to say that there were so many SGs that I couldn't keep track of all of the ones that were there, but I did get a chance to meet a few of my old faves Lola, Fractal, Trixie, Chloe, and Roethke, as well as some of the newer models.
All in all it was a great time. Well worth the trip. My sincerest thanks to Glassheart, The Trooper, and Punt and Muller for hosting me and showing me a great time. You can count on the favor being returned whole heartedly should any of you venture out my way. And to lil_tuffy for putting together one of the best SG events I've been to so far.
Love and respect to the city of San Francisco.
