Sometimes in life we are lucky enough to have a friend that no matter how many years pass, the friendship survives. They always have just the right advice and more life experience to help you sort things out when nothing makes sense. When something goes terribly wrong in your life, they are there to make sure you make it, just like you were there all the times they needed to make it.
I am lucky enough to have someone like that. When i was upset about stupid drama in high school, he was always bluntly honest with advice, even if he made sure i knew it was my fault i was in the situation. He has honestly, never steered me wrong.
He came over today to check on me, just like he has done all the other times that i have been dumped or lost. In one instance when i was sixteen, he even made my stuffed animals talk to cheer me up. But today we just walked to the park and talked about being grown ups. We reminisced about everything we thought was so unfair and not worth it as teenagers, realizing that life really wasnt so damn bad back then.
I started to cry and laid my head on his lap and looked up at him and asked him a simple question,

"how do you pick up the pieces of your life when you have lost everything you know?"

His answer: "You dont. You leave the pieces behind and build something new."

It makes sense, why would i want to build a life out of things that are already broken? I wouldnt. Great advice from someone who works hard, loves his 2 kids and nothing more. I guess i am lucky.

I've learned not to trust friends in recent months. Have fun, enjoy, but don't rely.
